TwinLUG

As I noted yesterday, Tom built a really amazing module for Micropolis based on Hamline University’s “Old Main” building and promised to post pictures when they were available.

Max posted his images from the meeting last night and there are a few decent shots of the module:

I am told that there is not actually a tank behind the real building. :-)

The next full TwinLUG meeting will be 1:30PM Sunday December 7th 2008 at the Rondo Community library in St Paul, MN. The library is located at 461 N. Dale Street. We will be meeting in room “B”, which is the western half of the double room we had for November’s meeting. You can find the room by going around behind the front desk. “B” is the second meeting room.

In the spirit of the winter holidays December’s meeting will have a “Dirty Brickster” gift sharing. Notes and information about that event will be posted soon.

We hope to see you at the meeting!

Meeting Notes from 11/16/2008

November 17th, 2008

Garth has once again posted to the mailing list a nice round up for the most recent meeting.

I would just like to amplify his comment about Tom’s Micropolis module, which is an incredibly gorgeous replica of the “Old Main” building from Hamline University. Hopefully we’ll be able to get pictures at some point to share.

Thanks again for everyone who showed up and joined in the fun of the parts draw and the general conversation.

There was an article on Ars Technica this last week about The LEGO Group loosing a court battle about whether the iconic 2×4 LEGO Brick is covered as a Trademark or not. The article itself is an interesting read, but analysis by Benjamin Hauger, Esq. on the TwinLUG mailing list is very much worth reading to help understand what the court decision really means.

The next full TwinLUG meeting will be 1:30PM Sunday November 16th 2008 at the Rondo Community Library in St Paul, MN. The library is located at 461 N. Dale Street. We will not be in our usual room right off the lobby but will instead be in rooms “A” and “B” to the left of the main desk.

Thanks to Roy doing the grunt work there will be a Parts Draw!

Garth will be returning Micropolis modules since we appear to have lost our display case at the Mall Of America LEGO Store. Hopefully there will be further news on that front as well.

If there is something you would like to discuss please post a message to our Yahoo Groups discussion list.

We hope to see you at the meeting!

A recent post on MicroBricks pointed out an excellent looking micro scale city group build (English Translation) done by the Double Brick group in Russia.

We have finally published our “Micropolis” Micro City standard. We are interested in hearing comments from the rest of the AFoL community about the spec and would love to see pictures of any layouts based on it.

There is no official agenda set for the meeting yet though there was very tentative discussion of another Parts Draw and Roy in particular voiced a request to see more Micropolis modules. If there is something you would like to discuss please post a message to our Yahoo Groups discussion list.

We hope to see you at the meeting!

Meeting Notes from 10/19/2008

October 20th, 2008

Garth has once again posted notes from the most recent TwinLUG meeting at the Rondo Community Library in St Paul. Highlights:

  • Esther made an appearance and was given the signed “card” object. It was great to see her up and about.
  • A prospective new group member dropped by to find out about the group. We hope to see you again Tom!
  • Post-event reports for both Fallcon and TCBX

Read Garth’s message for other bits and pieces.

Just a reminder that the next TwinLUG meeting will be 1:30PM Sunday October 19th 2008 at the Rondo Community Library in St Paul, MN. The library is located at 461 N. Dale Street and we are usually in the large meeting room right off the lobby.

See you all there!
